Demise of The Childhood Hero
Demise of the Childhood Hero
Remember your childhood when you were naïve and
carefree. You had a HERO whom you admired the most. Whose viewpoints and
mindset resonated with that of yours the most. Well, mine was a paralyzed funny
looking world-renowned scientist going by the name STEPHEN HAWKING.
This man was no less than a war hero to me as to me he saved
countless people from getting too proud and lost by showing to humanity it’s
position in this vast universe where we are just smart monkeys on an average
planet of an average solar system in an average galaxy.
To me, he was the man who influenced my mindset for most of
my childhood and almost convinced me to become an atheist. These jargons like
“Big bang theory”, “string theory”, “black holes” , etc were my daily topics of
discussion and formed a major part of my reading list. He was the first one to
educate me on these topics through his books. I remember fighting with my
cohorts for a TV show on Discovery Channel where he used to explain these
topics in layman terms.
With this I remember thinking to myself that I was
unfortunate to not meet Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Thomas Alva Edison in
person but I can still meet a person of their order, Stephen Hawking. Alas! My
childhood wish can not be fulfilled now and my plan of meeting him during my
visit to England for my engineering internship will be executed without him.
God(if any, Stephen smiling) might have very intelligently planned the day of
his demise to be the day of Albert Einstein’s birthday or The Pi Day.
We don’t have any control over this universe although I
still hope that 10 years later he may arrive to earth in a spaceship “faster
than light” and will remark
“
I told ya, we weren’t not alone in this vast universe.”
